If in your daily life, you observe that you're often struggling with low self-worth, low self-esteem, a lack of confidence and feeling insecure, then it is possible that you have a “wounded inner child” within you. Other symptoms are anxiety, restlessness and different types of nervousness. Healing this wounded part of you will truly change your daily life experiences and all your relationships.
Where does that wounded inner child come from? It happens sometimes that, no matter how much the parents do their best, a child experiences some situations as traumatizing, as painful,
as scaring, as humiliating or overwhelming, even they were not supposed to be so.
Or, there can be other situations which definitely would have been traumatizing for everybody. Both types of experiences can be very painful and terrible for a young child. Also it happens sometimes that those experiences are repeated during many years over and over again, for example the experience of being rejected or criticized. For some people, these wounds can not heal until the child leaves the family house, when around 18-22 years old.
The main point is that if that child did not receive the loving support it needed in those difficult moments, then the wound remains unhealed. This is what is known as the wounded inner child, manifesting later often on the outside as chronic fears, high sensitivity in specific situations, nervousness, insecurity and other similar symptoms.
Later when leaving the family, there is a grown up person – with a wounded heart. The natural reaction of that young human being then is a pattern of self-protection in a very strong form, to make sure not to get hurt again. The person may experience fears and insecurity in normal daily situations. This person is walking through life with an unbalanced self-esteem, a serious lack of confidence, and often it is difficult to create stable relationships with others. For sure, all of this is understandable, when we know that there is a wound in that heart which needs healing.
To begin the healing, there is a good technique, You may start like this: When sitting in your meditation, begin by asking for Divine Guidance and call your Higher Self, your Soul, your Angels and Divine Guides to help you with this. Then, gently close your eyes and go within your heart. Within your heart, there is a sacred room, your own inner sacred space, your room where you can do all your self-healing work. You can decorate this room, put a sofa in the middle, whatever feels good to you. Sit there on that sofa in this inner room and then invite your inner child to join you. Imagine that your inner child, that younger you, is now sitting there with you; welcome it and ask it how it feels. Stay in the position of the observer, as the grown up person that you are.
It is possible that your inner child may be sad, insecure or angry. Just allow it all to be. Depending on what has been experienced, the inner child may not want to talk in the first time you meet. Speak gently with your inner child, explain that you wish to help and support it now; see how it changes when you offer your hand, when you offer a hug. Maybe your inner child has questions and would like you to explain why a situation happened. Maybe it was so scared because in those moments, nobody explained those things, nobody offered protection, compassion, love or respect.
The good news is: You can now give all these things to your inner child. Say all the comforting words it needs to hear. And hold it in your arms again. Make it feel secure and safe. Give your inner child all the love and all the compassion it needs. As you help your inner child to heal now, you do heal too. Talk with him/her, say everything that makes that child feel better. Take your time... this is so precious for the healing of it.
Very important is that you do allow this your inner child now to feel whatever it feels. To allow healing, all feelings really have to be allowed - and no longer repressed. It can also be that tears come to surface, maybe those tears that the child in the past was not allowed to cry. It is precious if you can allow those tears now and comfort your inner child. That your inner child can now express freely all its feelings is truly important for the healing... for your healing.
Your inner child may have many questions, but it may also have the need to talk, because it felt misunderstood in different situations. Listen to your inner child and let it feel that you do understand it. Help your inner child to feel secure and understood. Maybe in the past there was nobody really listening to it; or worse: maybe nobody really cared about the feelings of this child. Show your inner child how much you do care about its feelings.
Offer your inner child all the love it needs, the comforting words, the help, the support. You will naturally feel what it needs. Stay with your inner child as long as you like, until you see it feels better. Try to talk with your inner child with loving words, healing words and hold it in your arms. Your love and compassion will heal it step by step. Help your inner child to feel good about himself. Speak words of approval, of motivation, so that it can have a positive self-image now.
And ask your Angels to help your inner child to heal now, to feel better. You can also invite Mother Mary for these healing moments. Repeat them every day - you will feel the changes soon.
After your meditation, it may help you writing a letter to your inner child. Or maybe your inner child would like to write you a letter, who knows. Getting to know your inner child within your heart will allow you to get to know yourself better and change your feelings of self-worth and self-esteem.
Loving and nurturing your inner child like this in your meditations is a powerful technique to heal yourself. Repeating this exercise on a regular basis during a few weeks (or whenever needed) will help you heal and recover from the painful situations of your childhood.
Once your inner child feels loved and does receive all the care it needs, you will observe yourself and your feelings changing step by step. You will feel calmer for sure, and you will feel very good about yourself. When you heal the inner child, you naturally heal yourself. You then feel better in your daily life, more and more.
